Ramco Group’s first venture, a spinning mill – Rajapalayam Mills Limited, is established with a seed capital of Rs 500,000 raised from local shareholders. Rajapalayam begins its transformation from an agrarian society growing cotton as a cash crop, to the spinning hub it is today.

The Ramaraju Surgical Cotton Mills (RSCM) begins manufacturing absorbent cotton wool. Today, RSCM is one of the largest producers of wound-care products in South India.

An educational legacy begins

Ramco establishes a non-profit Trust, acquires land and builds three schools in Rajapalayam. Six more educational institutions have since been built. Today, Ramco transforms the lives of 12,000+ students each year.

P.A.C. Ramasamy Raja Polytechnic College built on a 55-acre campus. 600+ job-ready engineers and technologists join the workforce each year.

Ramco Industries Limited (RIL) sets up its first plant to manufacture fibre cement roofing sheets. Today, RIL has ten factories across India and two units in Sri Lanka.

To restore the Pandalgudi mines, Ramco plants over 250,000 saplings, designs an 18 km walking and cycling trail, a butterfly garden, and an information center for visitors and students. By 2027, 1 million trees will be planted on 800 acres.

Taram Textiles is established with automated cut-and-sew operations for making bedding products. The state-of-the-art manufacturing unit houses automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) for handling both rolls of fabric and finished products.
